A soulful message for today
The Parable of the Farmer’s Donkey
(i.e. the parable of you, whatever you’re going through)
One day a farmer’s donkey slipped and fell down into a well. The animal cried for hours as the farmer tried to figure out what to do. Finally, he decided the animal was old, and since the well had dried, it needed to be covered up anyway-it just wasn’t worth it to retrieve the donkey.
He invited all of his neighbors to come over and help him. They all grabbed a shovel and began to shovel dirt into the well. At first, the donkey realized what was happening and cried horribly. Then, to everyone’s amazement, he quieted down.
A few shovel loads later, the farmer finally looked down the well. He was astonished at what he saw. With each shovel of dirt that hit his back, the donkey was doing something amazing. He would shake it off and take a step up.
As the farmer’s neighbors continued to shovel dirt on top of the animal, he would shake it off and take a step up. Pretty soon, everyone was amazed as the donkey stepped up over the edge of the well and happily ran off!
Damn. That’s it. You gotta keep moving. Because life is going to shovel all kinds of dirt onto you. And the trick to getting out of the well is to shake it off and take a step up. Each of our troubles can be a stepping stone.
We can get out of the deepest wells if we just keep on moving, shaking it off, and taking a step up.

A meditation for you
Take a long, slow, deep breath in…
What am I frustrated by right now?
Why am I frustrated by it?
Why am I really frustrated by it?
One more deep breath…
What do I need right now that I’m not getting?
What would my life look like with this situation resolved at it’s best?
In that situation, how am I living differently?
How can I bring more of that into my life?
Exhale…

Two quotes to take you higher
“Treat everyone you meet like God in drag.”
“Say not, “I have found the truth,” but rather, “I have found a truth.” Say not, “I have found the path of the soul.” Say rather, “I have met the soul walking upon my path.” For the soul walks upon all paths. The soul walks not upon a line, neither does it grow like a reed. The soul unfolds itself, like a lotus of countless petals.”
