Visiting the Country Inside of Someone Else

This past week, a friend shared a beautiful concept called Imago. It means image or mirror, and it occurs when you’re in any type of relationship. Imago means that person – your friend, your partner, your colleague – is always reflecting who you are.

The exercise begins with a willingness to visit your partner’s metaphorical country. This means living and breathing their point of view during the exercise without argument. When you visit another country, you eat their food, try to speak their language, and use their customs. So, you are doing the same here.

Then, the roles reverse, and you ask them to visit your country.

Next time you have an opportunity, try using Imago and see how it goes. Who knows? Maybe you’ll realize their food is actually pretty good 😌😉
