A soulful message for today

What Rules You?

This week, I reflected on how celebrating our country’s independence can serve as a metaphor for our own inner independence.

Nearly 250 years ago, the people living in what would become the United States of America were still under the rule of a country over 4,000 miles away. Despite the distance, this external power dictated every move, purchase, and action of those living here. This control ultimately sparked a revolution, leading to the birth of our complex yet incredibly beautiful nation.

This made me ponder a question:

What rules me?

What do I want to rule me?

And what kind of inner revolution do I need to get there?

Many of us have experienced inner revolutions and gained our independence again and again. But perhaps, now is an opportunity to uncover something that has been unconsciously ruling you and find even greater independence and freedom.

A meditation for you

Take a long, slow, deep breath in…

What rules me?

What do I want to rule me?

What would that life look like?

Exhale.

Two quotes to take you higher

“We must be free not because we claim freedom, but because we practice it.”

William Faulkner

“To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment."

Ralph Waldo Emerson
