Scratch the Ticket

There’s something I’ve been thinking about lately.

1. This idea that everything — everything — is happening for your spiritual growth.

2. That our life is a lot like those lottery ticket scratchers.

Whether it’s starting a conversation with a stranger, putting your art, your thoughts, your heart into the world, or booking the trip you’ve been talking about forever… those two things are true.

Here’s the part we forget: we don’t get to control the response.

You walk up to someone, say hello… whether they light up or shut down has nothing to do with you!!! They probably already made up their mind about how they’re going to respond anyway. Your only job is to open the door to connection!! To put yourself out there in a real way. That’s it.

Same goes for everything else in life. Starting a business. Posting something meaningful. Sharing something vulnerable with someone.

You don’t get to decide what happens next. You just have to make the first move.

It’s as if life gives you these lottery scratchers every day. The result is already written. The question is: are you going to scratch the ticket, or throw away the opportunity to even see if you’ve won?

You don’t know what’s underneath. Could be nothing. Could be the rest of your life 😉 

Your only job is to scratch.

So many times, we just don’t scratch. We look at the ticket, imagine the loss, and toss it away before ever finding out what could’ve been.

Think about how many lottery tickets life has handed you that were never even scratched.

We spend so much time trying to control the outcome, trying to do the perfect thing so we get the perfect response. But we forget—our only job is to just open the door.

So maybe this week, don’t try to win. Just play the game.

Open the door. Send the message. Say hello. Make the call. Scratch the ticket.
